Terry Rowe joins Let’s Twist Again

What do you know? “Let’s Twist Again” is a year old. For episode 13, I’m excited to welcome a very accomplished player, good friend and hilarious guy in Terry Rowe.

Born and raised in London, Terry started his career with Brentford FC, and the twists and turns of pro soccer eventually took him across the US for clubs including the Wichita Wings, Tampa Bay Rowdies, Detroit Neon, Anaheim Splash, and, of course, the Indianapolis Twisters. He discusses all that and more on this episode.

• Terry reveals why he chose football over a potential career in cricket. He also shares what it was like to break into professional football during a period when Black players still faced significant challenges throughout the English game.
• You’ll hear stories from the glory years of indoor soccer in America through a firsthand account of what made the MISL one of the most exciting leagues in North American sports during the 1980s.
• He reflects on his years with the Wichita Wings, the unique atmosphere of indoor soccer, and why the game suited his strengths so perfectly.
• His “One Crazy Story,” about a high-stakes card game that escalated quickly during a road trip, will leave you

Naturally, much of our discussion centers on Terry’s time in Indianapolis.

• He recalls joining the expansion Twisters in 1996, adapting to Jorge Espinoza‘s demanding training methods, overcoming organizational challenges, and helping lay the foundation for the team’s dramatic improvement in 1997.
• Terry also shares when he knew the trade that sent him and Rich Ryerson to Anaheim was inevitable.
• And while Terry played for numerous clubs in a distinguished career, he describes the Twisters as one of the most unified and selfless teams he ever experienced—a group defined by camaraderie, commitment, and a shared desire to improve.
