Some soccer players are remembered for how many goals they scored. Others are remembered for making sure somebody else didn’t find the net.
Mate Kozul was the latter.
The former Twisters defender joined me for Episode 15 of “Let’s Twist Again,” and his story takes us well beyond the two summers he spent at Market Square Arena.
“The Croatian Sensation’s” soccer journey took him from Arizona to Europe, from the beginning of the Continental Indoor Soccer League to the beginning of Major League Soccer, and eventually to Indianapolis, where he became an important piece of a young expansion team that grew into a playoff contender.
And nearly 30 years later, the relationships and lessons from those two summers are still showing up in his life.
Even though the Twisters played just two seasons some 30 years ago, the stories, friendships and memories didn’t disappear when the CISL did. That’s why we do “Let’s Twist Again.”
