When fans remember the Indiana Twisters, they remember energy, unpredictability—and players who gave everything. Few embodied that spirit more than Matt Blackbourne, who was my guest on Episode 11 of “Let’s Twist Again.”
Matt’s journey began in Louth, England, where he grew up playing every sport imaginable. His path led through Grimsby Town FC’s academy before a life-changing move to the University of Evansville that set him up for a pro career. (One that was dicey at first…he may have been the only professional player with a paper route!)
You may remember the 1996 season as one where the expansion Twisters survived ownership upheaval, late paychecks, brutal travel and small home crowds. But it was also a story of resilience and a brotherhood that endures to this day.
